Susan’s Sleep Transformation
When Susan first walked into Livingston Acupuncture, she had dark circles under her eyes and she was exhausted. And rightly so, because she hadn’t slept well for 20+ years. Her insomnia began when she was 13 years old. What started as occasional restless nights over time became a pattern of staring at the ceiling and watching the clock. Now in her mid-30s, she couldn’t fall asleep. She couldn’t stay asleep and she woke up at least three times every night.
Every day was a fog and it was nearly impossible to keep up with her two young children, let alone moving forward in her life.
“I feel like I’m missing life. I’m missing my kids’ childhood. I’m tired. I’m always snappy and I can’t live like this” she shared.
Susan had done everything she could: she saw specialists, had sleep studies., tried prescription meds, over-the-counter meds, melatonin, and supplements. She implemented all the influencer sleep hygiene routines; dark room, no electronics, meditation, yoga, and exercises. In short, she tried it all. Some of it worked short-term. None of it worked long-term.
As she was about to give up when her doctor confirmed her worst fears and told her: “There are just some people who will never sleep — and you’re one of them. There’s nothing more we can do.”
That’s where we come in.
At Livingston Acupuncture we know the body is inter-connected and insomnia is not just about getting to sleep. It’s about making sure the organ systems are working well together to deliver the right nutrients to the right place at the right time to support the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems properly. We know that insomnia in a 30-year old can be a vastly different physiological picture than insomnia in a 60-year old and therefore requires a completely different approach. That’s why the one-size-fits-all approach of medications and supplements fails for so many people.
We don’t believe in forcing the body to move between sedation and wakefulness. We restore the natural sleep-wake cycle by supporting the entire system instead.
Within the first month, Susan’s sleep improved by 50%.
Instead of lying awake for 90 minutes - she was falling asleep within 30.
Instead of waking three times a night - she was waking once.
Instead of four broken hours - she was getting six solid hours of sleep.
By month three, her sleep was normalizing.
She was falling asleep within 15 minutes.
She was sleeping through the night.
She was averaging seven to eight hours of restful sleep.
Her sleep-monitoring device showed normal sleep phases and 90 minutes of REM each night.
The most important change for Susan was the way she was able to interact with her kids. She had renewed energy and patience. She could get through the day without feeling like she constantly needed to lie down. In short, she was no longer missing her kids’ childhood!
