Is This Delicious Treat Making Your Allergy Symptoms Worse?

Every food in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is categorized by taste, temperature, and moisture based on how it affects the body.

In TCM ice cream is

  • Sweet (like sugar - which can cause inflammation),

  • Cold (slows things down and congeals), and

  • Damp (increases mucus and phlegm)

So if you already have a lot of mucus and inflammation from allergies, ice cream will make your symptoms worse. Sad, I know.

Bottom line - Is dairy good or bad?

Answer: It can actually be both, but it depends…

Like all food, herbs, and supplements in TCM, there is no "one-size-fits-all" answer. Whether or not dairy is good or bad for you specifically depends on your medical history, how your organ systems are functioning, and what you're trying to achieve. For example, someone who is “deficient and dry,” according to TCM, might do well with dairy. For someone who is full of “dampness,” according to TCM, dairy is not your best choice.

If you'd like to know what works best for you, your licensed TCM practitioner has extensive training (a 4-year Master's degree) and can expertly guide you to the solutions that will work best to accomplish your goals quickly and efficiently.
