From the Hospital to Holiday Markets: Amanda’s Comeback from Back Pain
When Amanda tripped and fell in her home, she couldn’t imagine how much it would change her life. What started as a painful accident quickly turned into weeks of excruciating back pain that made even the simplest movements feel overwhelming.
“I could hardly get out of bed and standing in the shower was so painful, we had to get a shower seat,” Amanda shared. “I couldn’t even brush my teeth without sitting down - I was in so much pain.”
She finally went to the ER and spent a week in the hospital while doctors ran tests. The results kept coming back “normal.” Structurally, everything looked fine. But Amanda’s back was telling a different story. Her pain was real, and constant, and exhausting.
After leaving the hospital, she followed her doctor’s orders: physical therapy, pain medication, stretching – in short, everything she was told to do. Weeks went by and still, the pain controlled her days.
What made it even worse was the timing. “For our 30th wedding anniversary my husband booked an amazing European River Cruise over the Christmas holiday,” Amanda shared. “I was thrilled beyond belief.”
But instead of feeling excited, Amanda felt scared. “How am I going to walk through Christmas markets if I can barely make it through the grocery store?” she wondered. The thought of canceling a once-in-a-lifetime trip was heartbreaking.
Frustrated and feeling out of options, Amanda remembered an advertisement she saw in the Fowlerville News and decided to give acupuncture a try. There was nothing to lose.
Carol Kremer, Licensed Acupuncturist at Livingston Acupuncture explains, “our patients have typically tried everything - up to and including surgery and they’re still in pain. We offer hope because we know there is more to healthcare than prescription pills and a scalpel. By combining several integrative therapies, we’re able to treat pain from several different angles. Instead of just relying on imaging and scans, we focus on what matters – how your body functions as a whole. We improve circulation, reduce inflammation and regulate the nervous system. This unique approach reduces pain and restores movement – all without drugs or surgery. “
Over the next few weeks, Amanda noticed meaningful changes. Her pain levels decreased. Walking became easier. She was able to stand in the shower and brush her teeth without resting. She wasn’t “pushing through” pain anymore—she was actually moving more comfortably and confidently.
“Livingston Acupuncture was my last hope. If you would’ve told me 3 months ago I’d feel this good after a few acupuncture treatments, I wouldn’t have believed it. But I’m a believer now,” says Amanda. “I can’t believe I almost canceled our once-in-a lifetime trip because of pain. I’m so excited to stroll through the Christmas markets, drink mulled wine, and have dinner in a real castle! And I’m thankful for the team at Livingston Acupuncture because they made this trip possible.”
💛 Amanda’s story is a reminder:
Just because imaging looks normal doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real. Healing isn’t always about “fixing” a broken structure—it’s about helping your body restore balance, calm inflammation, and remember how to move without fear.
If chronic pain is threatening something important in your life—travel, family events, or simply enjoying your day—it may be time to look beyond one single approach. There are often more options than you’ve been told.
